St Ives has a unique drawing area with some students travelling considerable distances. We have designed a system where those that travel the furthest on the northshore line are placed on our earliest buses. Many students travel by train and bus to SIHS, so it is unlikely that your child will be travelling alone.

Morning buses transport students to Yarrabung Road from locations such as Gordon Station and Terrey Hills. The afternoon buses leave Horace Street and Yarrabung Road outside the school between 3:20pm - 3:45pm (Mon, Wed-Fri) and after 2:15pm on Tuesdays.

Students are supervised until the arrival of their particular bus. The majority of buses, pick up and drop off students at Gordon Station. Information on CDC NSW Transport timetables can be accessed by visiting:

Train services and timetables by CityRail can be found here:

CityRail provides train services to and from Gordon Station.

School travel passes can be used for free travel to and from school or TAFE. Depending on where you are travelling, you may receive a free school travel pass, School Opal card, or both. For more information, online application and FAQs, Click Here.

For personal travel, children aged 16 years and under should use a Child/Youth Opal card

Students over the age of 16 and continuing to year 12 will need to carry their free Transport Concession Card with their Child/Youth Opal Card. Read more here...

Senior students who drive to school are not permitted to park cars in staff car parks or school grounds. Students are not to have other students as passengers without written parental permission and are not to leave school grounds during the day to 'visit' their car.

Bicycles and Scooters

Students who ride bicycles and scooters to school are required to lock them in the bicycleand scooter racks provided at the two entrances to 'D' block.

Note: There are no facilities to store helmets. Helmets can be locked with bicycles and scooters.

Students with a disability who are unable to travel to and from school under the School Student Transport Scheme may be eligible for assistance under the Department of Education Assisted School Travel Program.

Getting to and from school safely

As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.

Keep our school community safe by:

  • driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
  • being a good role model
  • never calling your child from across the road
  • using the safest place to cross the road.

Subsidised school travel

Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

  • The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
  • The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.
