St Ives High School welcomes international students from many countries and is recognised for our strong and committed international students program.
We seek to maximise the outcomes of individual students in all areas of the curriculum. The school works to develop self-confidence among students and commitment to personal excellence. We have enthusiastic teachers utilising their experience and knowledge to enhance the learning outcomes of our international students.
Special English as second language (ESL) programs are taught throughout the school, at all levels, by experienced and caring ESL teachers, including the HSC ESL course in which our students have achieved well above state average for the past five years.
The cross-cultural experience of international students gives students the opportunity to study alongside Australian students in a friendly, safe, multicultural environment. Interacting with our local students is a powerful educational experience, which also encourages tolerance and understanding of others.
The ongoing support of the international students team is highly regarded in the school. Members of the team help students to adjust to their new surroundings with orientation days and a buddy system, and regularly monitor their welfare, including contact with parents and guardians.
We also provide our students with additional Intensive English Language support, international students liaison officers, barbeques, excursions and a variety of other extra-curricular activities.
