Principal's message

We are truly delighted to have your children join us at St Ives High School. Ours is a vibrant and inclusive environment where every child is given the opportunity to thrive. Whether their passion lies on the field, in the classroom, or on the stage, we eagerly anticipate the growth of their skills and the sharing of their achievements in the years ahead.

We're proud to offer an extensive array of extra-curricular activities, including our rebranded Music, Acting, Dance – Extracurricular (M.A.D.E) program for 2024. This program includes bands, ensembles, choir, and tuition, with numerous musical performance opportunities throughout the year. Additionally, it incorporates our Performing Arts Unit (PAU) which offers after-school classes in dance and musical theatre, providing even more chances for your child to explore their creative potential.

Traditionally, our school hosts musicals every other year. This year, an original musical film, Plan B will be released on November 15. The creativity and dedication put into this project promises to be a memorable experience for all involved. As we look ahead, planning for our next live musical will kick off shortly after the movie release. We're excited to explore new avenues for showcasing our students' talents on stage. Our most recent live musical, Matilda in 2019, received incredibly positive feedback and was a resounding success. We invite you to consider getting involved in future productions, as your support plays an invaluable role in making these events truly special.  We're excited to share that we will be having a musical in 2024 and that your child has an opportunity to be a part this.

For our early risers, we have a weekly Bootcamp on Fridays at 7:30 am and Run Club on Tuesdays at 7.30am. Both are open to all students and often attended by our dedicated teachers. Please see the Activities Timetable later in the book for other activities we anticipate will be offered in 2024.

In times of difficulty, there is always someone here to help; Mr Mitchell Togher, your Year Adviser, is here to listen and assist and our School Counsellor, Mrs. Druce, to provide confidential support. For matters regarding discipline and wellbeing, students can see their Head Teacher Wellbeing or Deputy Principal. From 2024, we will also have a Head Teacher who specifically supports Stage 4.

To stay in the loop, our weekly newsletter is a valuable resource, distributed via email and uploaded to the school website every Friday. The Sentral Parent Portal is a central hub for information about your child's timetable, reports, attendance, and other school-related matters. I strongly encourage you to sign up.

The Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is a wonderful way for parents to actively support the school through fundraising, the uniform shop and special projects.

We take immense pride in our students and their achievements, celebrating them through newsletters, morning teas, and assemblies. I eagerly anticipate celebrating your child's successes alongside you. Welcome to St Ives High School.

St Ives High School is a proud local co-educational comprehensive government high school located in Sydney’s leafy upper north shore. The school’s drawing area covers the suburbs of St Ives, parts of Turramurra and Pymble in 2024. The success of our students and the strong reputation of the school in the community have led to increased enrolment demands in recent years. We offer an established gifted and talented program, broad curriculum and opportunities in sport and performance. The school has a hearing support unit and strong multicultural programs. We have high expectations for all student and we facilitate a learning environment where each student is encouraged to work towards their personal best using a growth coaching approach. As a school we celebrate student effort and growth. Our HSC results in 2019 were the strongest we have achieved in recent years. As a school community we are working towards outstanding results again in 2023.

The school has a multicultural student body that supports and celebrates cultural diversity through its multicultural days. We offer extensive support for students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Our global learning focus has enabled students to visit Spain, Italy, China, Japan, France, USA, and England in recent years. In addition, we host many visits from overseas schools. We have sister school agreements with Junten High School in Tokyo Japan, Number 54 Middle School in Tianjin China and Number 1 School in Xinyu China.

The enthusiastic and dedicated staff at St Ives High School includes teachers with experience developing curriculum, external examinations and HSC marking. We offer a broad and diverse curriculum that can be tailored to the needs of individual students. In addition, our extra curricular programs in the performing arts, dance, band, musicals and student leadership allow us to provide a well-rounded education for our students.

The school has excellent resources and support from the local community. We are lucky to have a proactive and supportive Parents and Citizens (P&C). The P&C are a strong, dynamic and very supportive parent body that enhances the operation of the school. Our school's facilities include extensive sporting and playing fields and a trade training centre that includes two commercial kitchens.  We are embarking on major infrastructure works that will see the refurbishment of our creative arts, music and industrial arts/technology teaching spaces. This also includes our new Sports Centre with multiple indoor courts and fitness labs.

We work closely with our partner primary schools, St Ives, St Ives Park and St Ives North through our stagecoach program. The program provides Year 6 students in these schools with high school experience over a school term.
