Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. The School Attendance Policy sets out the requirements for the attendance of students in NSW government schools.

Attendance and absences

On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unexplained on the student's record.

Information for students in years 11 and 12

Regular attendance for students in years 11 and 12 is required to meet course requirements, and parents are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day and notifying the school within 7 days of any absence.

Extended leave request

All extended leave requests for 5 days or more need to be requested at least 1 month prior to travelling. This is specially importants for years 11 and 12.

Wet weather and thursday grade sport

In SIHS, Grade sport is part of the mandatory school curriculum for years 9 and 10, offering opportunities to compete and develope skills as part of the PDHPE syllabus.
