Learning and school experience

At our centre, students participate in an intensive English language program designed to develop their communication, literacy and learning skills.

The program supports students to build confidence using English while continuing their education in a supportive learning environment.

Our learning approach

At our centre, students take part in an intensive English language program designed to help them build the skills and confidence needed for mainstream schooling.

Teachers provide clear and structured lessons that support students to develop their English language skills step by step. Learning focuses on building confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while helping students become familiar with classroom learning in Australia.

Our learning environment is inclusive, supportive and student-centred. Teachers use a range of strategies to support different learning needs and help students feel confident participating in classroom activities.

Our approach supports student learning and progress through:

  • English language development – building skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • practical classroom learning – group activities, discussions and hands-on tasks
  • technology in learning – supporting communication, research and digital skills
  • student wellbeing – creating a safe and supportive learning environment
  • community connections – excursions and activities that help students learn about their local community
  • monitoring student progress – providing regular feedback and setting learning goals
  • small group support – providing additional assistance where needed
  • family communication – keeping parents and carers informed about student learning and progress
  • transition support – working with families and schools to support a smooth transition into mainstream schooling.
Student activities and experiences

Students take part in a range of activities that support language development, wellbeing and connection with the school community.

These experiences help students build confidence using English, develop friendships and become familiar with school life in Australia.

Activities may include:

  • classroom learning activities that support English language development
  • cultural and language activities that celebrate students’ diverse backgrounds
  • excursions and incursions that help students explore their local community
  • opportunities to participate in school events and activities
  • collaborative learning and group projects
  • wellbeing activities that support positive relationships and student confidence.

These opportunities help students feel connected to the school community while building the skills they need to transition into mainstream schooling.

Students develop important learning skills

English language development – An intensive English language program helps build confidence using English in everyday school life. Lessons support the development of skills needed to participate in mainstream classes.

Reading, writing, speaking and listening – English language skills are strengthened through activities that develop reading, writing, speaking and listening. These skills support clear communication and participation in classroom learning.

Classroom learning and activities – A range of classroom learning activities support language development and subject learning. Lessons encourage collaboration, problem-solving and active participation.

Understanding Australian school routines – Familiarity with everyday school routines in Australia is developed through classroom expectations, learning activities and school events. This helps build confidence and prepares students for transitioning into mainstream schooling.

School experience

Students are supported to take part in school life and build connections within the school community. This may include excursions, cultural activities and opportunities to participate in school events.

While attending the centre, students also become familiar with everyday school routines and expectations in Australia.

These experiences help students build confidence, feel connected and prepare for a successful transition into mainstream schooling.
